WHY STUDY THE CAMBRIDGE TECHNICALS IN IT?
The Cambridge Technicals Level 3 Extended Certificate in IT is an excellent way for students to develop their knowledge and skills of IT. The course is aimed at students who prefer a more vocational approach and want a practical hands-on experience of using computers. The course will help develop a number of skills and improve your understanding of how IT is used in industry.
FUTURE ACADEMIC AND CAREER PATHWAYS
This course will provide students with a foundation to pursue a number of career and academic opportunities. The Cambridge Technicals Extended Certificate is the equivalent to one A Level qualification and accepted by many universities across the UK, as part of the entry requirements for a higher education course. Many students who complete this Level 3 qualification go on to study an IT related course or apprenticeship.
COURSE CONTENT
Students will be studying the OCR syllabus.
Year 12
Unit 1: Fundamentals of IT – understanding the hardware, software and ethical use of business related IT systems.
Unit 2: Global Information – understanding how organisations use data and information, and the legislation to regulate organisations and protect individuals.
Year 13
Unit 3: Cyber Security – understanding the range of threats, vulnerabilities and risks with IT systems.
Unit 8: Project Management – understanding and developing a range of project planning skills and techniques.
Unit 9: Product Development – understanding the processes and techniques required for developing a product, as well as the factors that influence developments.
ASSESSMENT
Year 12
Unit 1: Externally assessed, written examination, 1 hour 30 minutes, maximum of 80 marks.
Unit 2: Externally assessed, written examination, 1 hour 30 minutes, maximum of 80 marks.
Year 13
Unit 3: Externally assessed, written examination, 1 hour, maximum of 60 marks
Unit 8: Internally assessed, synoptic assessment completed through a series of tasks
Unit 9: Internally assessed, synoptic assessment completed through a series of tasks

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Five GCSEs at grade 5 or above
