Our Curriculum

At St Peter’s our purpose is to be Christ to all. We nurture independent, resilient, inquisitive and motivated lifelong learners. By being compassionate and generous in spirit, we aim to be a community whose every member feels uniquely valued. We strive to enable all to be courageous individuals, having the integrity and spiritual strength to make a positive difference in the world, following the example of St Peter. Our school is built upon high expectations, great relationships and the Rocks of St Peter’s:

Service

We deliver a broad, balanced and inclusive curriculum that is ambitious for all our students, to enable them to fulfil their true potential and be successful in life. Our curriculum is planned and sequenced to develop students’ knowledge and skills using a mastery approach. Students’ understanding is assessed and teaching is adapted as required. Feedback is given regularly to help students improve and to address misconceptions. The development of literacy skills is embedded throughout.

Beyond the academic curriculum, we want to inspire students to discover and develop other interests and talents. Our extra-curricular programme aims to develop passion and enthusiasm as well as inspire students to continue learning. The Sixth Form have a full enrichment programme which runs every Wednesday afternoon. In addition, we have a wide range of trips which students experience through their time at St Peter’s. Please see our Extra-Curricular Route Map for details.

We want all our students to be happy and thriving. We promote an inclusive environment that meets the needs of all students including those with Special Educational Needs or Disabilities. Our pastoral curriculum is carefully mapped across all year groups and aims to develop students’ understanding of pastoral issues and content as well as develop empathy, understanding and tolerance for those around them, within a framework of Gospel values.

We want all students to achieve the best possible qualifications they can and progress successfully to the next stage of their education. Independent careers advice and guidance is provided at every stage of a student’s journey, ensuring that they develop the skills and understanding they need to succeed. This is embedded within subject curriculums and as a thread within the pastoral curriculum. Many opportunities are provided for students to engage with employers, as well as further and higher education providers. St Peter’s is proud to hold the Quality in Careers Award, the highest national accolade which can be awarded for Careers provision. We are committed to raising students’ aspirations and helping every student to succeed.
