Chess Success!

Congratulations to all 18 St Peter’s chess players who competed at the Surrey & Hampshire Local Qualifier for the U19 National Schools Chess Championships!

St Peter’s entered two teams into the main event and six players into an individual tournament, held at RGS School last Wednesday. The students from Years 7 through to 13 faced three 40 minute timed games against the best players from local schools.

Everyone did exceptionally well: the A Team came 3rd overall and have qualified for the Regional Finals next term, the B Team came 5th and narrowly missed qualifying by only one point! The players in the individual competition all gained valuable experience for future events.

Well done to: Adam, Sam, Sam, Daniel, Charlie, Callum, Piotr, Greg, Thomas, Ben, Otto, Taryll, Adam, Ines, Candela, Matthew, Cohen, and Fergus. Next term St Peter’s will face the Regional Finals!

Improve your chess skills – come to chess club in the library on Monday lunchtimes!

And more news…! Adam in Year 7 has won a place in the England junior team and will represent England when they play in the Czech Republic in April next year!
